As the co-owner of Thorwin Properties, Maryanne Thorkelson draws on a background
that’s tailor-made for helping people find homes they love.
Coming from an Air Force family, Maryanne Thorkelson moved around frequently after
being born in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. She lived in multiple homes in many
provinces, which led to a lifelong love of house-hunting and the real estate market.
Maryanne and her husband, Kris, met after she spent five years teaching high school
and middle school in Lockport and Portage la Prairie. With a Bachelor of Human
Ecology degree from the University of Manitoba in 1991, Maryanne continued studying
at the school, earning a second degree in Education in 1993.
Thorwin Properties, co-owned by the Thorkelsons in Winnipeg, features first-rate, multi-
family homes.
Maryanne and Kris have four daughters. The other key members of the family include
an Australian Labradoodle, a Pug, one Lop Bunny and two rats. Maryanne has always
loved animals—and knows what it’s like for renters to struggle finding pet-friendly
homes. It’s another part of her past that has become a Thorwin Properties cornerstone value.
When she’s not working, she enjoys catching the latest film with her husband, investing
quality time with her daughters, an occasional Netflix binge and quilting.
